Nigerian reggae/dancehall singer/songwriter Patoranking was born Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie in Ijegun-Egba in 1990. Growing up deeply immersed in the music of Buju Banton, Lucky Dube, Tuface, Fela Kuti, and other greats of reggae, dancehall, and Afro-beat, Okorie channeled these influences into his own unique style and began releasing original music in 2012, also drawing on the influences of Nigerian fuji music for his earliest singles. In 2014, after a series of lower-profile singles, Patorankingsigned to Foston Musik and released the “Girlie O” single and video. The song was a minor success but went on to spawn a hit remix a few months later with vocals by Tiwa Savage.
Nothing was known about Patoranking’s father until recently when the singer shared a photo of himself with his pups in the streets of New York. In an interview Pato revealed that his family would love to stay off the spotlight and they’re doing such a fine job to maintain that. Even the name of his father and mother remains a mystery to the online world.
Patoranking looks like his father. That’s not to debate. The semblance cannot be missed. When the singer shared the image of his father on his twitter handle fans couldn’t help but spot the resemblance. A funny fan wrote ‘They don’t look Suh Different’ taking a line off the singer’s popular track.
